Qualifying Youth for CIL Transition Services

This course teaches you how Centers for Independent Living (CILs) help young people with disabilities move into adult life. You will learn about the laws that guide these services, how to decide if youth qualify, and the kinds of support CILs provide. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to tell the difference between youth services and transition services, understand how to report them, and explain what makes a strong program for young adults.

  • 15-30 minutes
  • Great for newcomers to the Independent Living network
  • A 10-question assessment at the conclusion of the course
    • Must pass with 80% to receive a certificate of completion from the IL T&TA Center

This course introduces the foundational concepts every SILC member, staff person, or partner needs to understand. You’ll explore why SILCs exist, how they evolved, what laws govern their work, and how they help ensure that people with disabilities lead statewide Independent Living systems.
