Description

Whether your consumers speak another language, use assistive technology, or simply benefit from plain language, this session offers hands-on strategies to help you connect. Learn how to use interpretation tools, establish effective communication policies, and prepare staff to support people who don’t speak English as a first language.

Objectives

  • Learn how Section 21 of the Rehabilitation Act supports access for people from different language and cultural background.
  • Understand key terms like “plain language,” “unserved,” and “underserved,” and how they apply to Independent Living work.
  • Explore practical ways CILs can improve communication access for all consumers, including those with limited English proficiency or diverse communication needs.
